This Christmas Eve  join us at Central Reformed Church as we celebrate the birth of the Christ Child with our children. Join us at 4 pm for a family friendly Christmas Eve service.  Every child is invited to participate in this service by choosing and wearing a costume.  (Costumes available in the chapel beginning at 3:30 pm.) Children will be called up during the children’s moment to create a living display of the Nativity scene.  Following the children’s moment, children may go to the nursery or may remain in worship with their families.

Your family will enjoy this traditional yet family friendly service and leave with “Silent Night” on their lips as we include the traditional singing of this carol by candlelight.  (Parents are invited to share their candles with the youngest children to avoid burned fingers from the hot wax. )

Everyone is welcome as celebrate Christmas together.

Karen Beard

Partners for a Racism-Free Community is a movement of citizens and organizations who desire to move Greater Grand Rapids from “that’s the way it is” to “racism-free” through personal commitments, institutional efforts, social advocacy and persisten intolerance of racist attitudes, words and behaviors.  Come learn a bit about the history of the movement, how to be a catalyst for change and the commitment to excellence in racial equality.  Together as a coalition, we can encourage each other to expect equality, because no one can truly experience equality until everyone does.

Advent is the season of waiting, expecting and hoping.  In our busy, day to day lives it can be difficult to put aside all of the things that distract us and focus on the “reason for the season”. This class will give us time and space to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ.

In this class we will explore yet another ancient prayer practice, one that is lately being taken up by Protestants.  We’ll learn the symbolism of prayer beads and how to use them in your own prayer discipline.  Worried about the Reformers warnings on meaningless trinkets and “vain repetition”? Have no fear! Amid the distractions of modern life, beads can help us seek God in a deliberate and meditative way, inviting the kind of focused, intentional praying that God honors. Nan Lewis Doerr’s prayer guide Praying with Beads: Daily Prayers for the Christian Year will be available for $9.50.
