An outdoor live Nativity begins at 3:00 pm with camel, donkey, sheep, costuming and children as participants.  Enjoy refresments, carolers and the JOyful Juggler indoors.  At 4:00 pm participate in the Family candlelit service: “Through the Eyes of a Child”.  Public Welcome.

The Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boysbegins it’s 22nd season this year (2011-2012). Specializing in sacred concerts andseasonal services, the choir ismodeled afterthe centuries old English Cathedral traditionof choirs ofmen and boys with a repertoireranging from the renaissance through the20th century. Such composers as Byrd, Tallisand Gibbons, Purcell, Handel, StanfordBritten and Tavener are just a few of thosein the repertoire of the Choir.The Choir of Men and Boys is comprisedof 20 plus soprano choristers between theages of seven and fourteen along with acontingent of 20 plus adults who sing thealto, tenor and bass parts. This year, tenof the adults singing with the choir arefathers of choristers which brings a ratherunique character to the group.Since 2011, the Choir has been under thedirection of Scott Bosscher who trainedin England as a choral scholar at WellsCathedral and is certified in the RoyalSchools of Music. The Calvin Community Symphony,formerly known as the Calvin AlumniOrchestra, was founded in 1994 by formermembers of Calvin’s student ensemblesto allow adult musicians to continue toserve the community by sharing performancesof classical orchestral literature. Theorchestra’s membership is open not onlyto Calvin alumni, but also to communitymusicians who share the orchestra’s goalsand the college’s mission.Under the direction of Robert Nordling,Professor of Music at Calvin College, theCCS plays a variety of symphonic literaturefrom all time periods of orchestral music.They feature soloists regularly and havecommissioned several new works. CCS alsopresents a Family Concert seriesfeaturing music of great composerswhich entertains children of all ages.The symphony’s members, who give freelyof their time and talent, come fromallwalksof life. All share a common loveof performing great orchestral literaturefrom composers past and present, andan abiding respect for Calvin’s educationalmission and performing arts tradition.

JOHN AND GWEN VARINEAU

John and Gwen Varineau have been making music together for 26 years. John is known tomany as the Associate Conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony for the past 26 years and Gwen is known as a pianist who accompanies instrumentalists at Calvin College, Cornerstone University and GVSU as well as area middle school and high school students. Althoughmany peoplewill recognize John’s name as the Associate Conductor of the GR Symphony, theymay not be aware that he is trained as a clarinetist and has performed with several orchestras in New England and elsewhere (Grand Rapids included). For this evening’s concertwe look forward to hearing JohnVarineau onClarinetmakingmusicwith hiswife Gwen Varineau on the piano.

Nursery Mom’s Morning Out September 20, 2011

If you have a child or children ranging in age from 0-3 years old who participates currently or would like to participate in the future in  Sunday morning nurseries here at Central Reformed Church, you are invited to join other moms with kidz the same age for a pampering mystery excursion created just for you.  Child care providers will care  for your children and provide them with a lunch while  Mom’s will be escorted away on a mystery excursion which includes lunch for them.

Take this opportunity to get to know the other mom’s who make use of the nurseries on Sunday mornings.
